Though food insecurity is a global problem that can't be solved overnight, communities can take part in ending it. These days, even existing food banks are also facing a shortage in supplies after a string of calamities. Community-based food banks are responsible for managing the distribution of food items. They handle the logistics and the distribution, making sure in the process that the food people receive are healthy. While there are communities that are still unable to cover their own needs, there are more communities that can supply the needs of more people, even those that are beyond their territory.

In this day and age, food banks are a necessary solution that allows the hungry and the able to have enough food to share. It is also a necessary contingency measure that will provide for the community in times of disaster and emergencies. Aside from providing food, volunteers from food banks also play a role in boosting the morale of people in need. In the process of giving food, they also bring hope and encouragement in impoverished places. These volunteers also get to see the needs of individuals and communities. Through food banks, donors and volunteers commit to working towards long-term improvement that will hopefully bring significant change in society.
